Health and Behavioral Supports

The Arc of Union County:

  • administers 13 residential programs serving 48 individuals.

  • established its Health and Behavior Department in March 1997 and currently provides programs to more than 100 individuals.

  • employs a consulting nutritionist and a speech and language pathologist who provide services to individuals residing in our group homes, the Adult Day Health Care, Community Support Program, and other day programs as necessary.

  • serves graduates of the Union County Day Training Program and others with multiple special needs at the Consumer Support Program in Roselle, providing one-on-one assistance with daily activities in an environment that provides multi-sensory stimulation.

  • provides an Adult Day Health Care Program in Roselle, serving persons with developmental disabilities who also have various medical conditions requiring nursing supervision; the program is funded by Medicaid and regulated by the Department of Health and Senior Services and Medicaid.

  • has nurses on-site at CSP and ADHC in Roselle, as well as nurses on staff at the main office in Springfield, who have oversight for all of The Arc of Union County’s group homes and day programs.  They assist in coordination of health related services, attend medical/psychiatric appointments, and advocate for all persons served.  The nurses also administer yearly flu vaccines and state-required Mantoux tests.  A Medical Records Assistant position was created in 2005 and has proven to be invaluable to the nurses, staff, and individuals served.

  • formed a Medical Advisory Board in 1994 comprised of physicians, nurses, Arc administrators, and staff.  The Board meets twice a year to review policies and procedures and to discuss current trends, treatments, medications, and pertinent topics of interest.

  • employs a Behavior Specialist who chairs the Behavior Support Committee, oversees and develops behavior plans and guidelines, trains staff in behavior support and crisis management, and assists with psychiatric and/or psychological appointments as necessary.
