Adult Day Programs

The Arc of Union County offers several day-time options for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Options include Supported Employment opportunities, coordinated through our Employment Services department, or Specialized Day programs which can provide social and recreational opportunities while addressing each individual's medical and other needs.

Day programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities include Social Day Care, Community Support, Adult Medical Day Care, and the Opportunities programs. Each program is located in Union County in spaces specifically designed and staffed to meet participants' needs.

The programs vary with respect to the nature of the needs of their participants, including those with medical or behavioral challenges. Within each program, we offer a wide variety of activities as we strive to provide educational, social and recreational opportunities for all. Activities offered reflect each individual's interests and abilities, as well as his or her goals as outlined in the Individualized Habilitation Plan (IHP).

The Arc's Social Day Program is an alternative day program which focuses on the needs of individuals for whom social and recreational skill development is more important than work-related activities. The Community Support or Adult Medical day programs may be an optimal choice for adults with developmental disabilities and certain medical conditions, while the Opportunities program serves adults with challenging behaviors which accompany their disabilities.

On a regular basis, a registered nurse is on site to evaluate each participant's physical health and progress, and to make recommendations as necessary. Also, consultations with a nutritionist, social worker, speech, occupational and behavioral therapists are available on an as-needed basis. All programs are staffed by a multi-disciplinary staff team to assist participants in achieving their goals.
