Adult Day Programs - Social Day Program
The Arc of Union County's Social Day Program is an alternative day program which focuses on the needs of individuals for whom social and recreational skill development is more important than work-related activities. Emphasis is placed on fostering independence and individual well-being.
The program services individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities over the age of 21. The focus of the program is on socialization, personal health, recreation, community integration and enhancing life skills. Within each focus area, we offer a wide range of activities and options to choose from.
Our social day program is person-centered and responsive to the needs and interests of each individual served. Each participant is encouraged to participate in educational, social and recreational opportunities on a daily basis.
Activities may promote life skills, including personal safety, social skills, and proper grooming. Educational curriculum is built into each day, and may include reading, writing, computers and math, with content and pace of learning customized to each participant's abilities. Other activities emphasize recreation, crafts, music, games and exercise. If contract work is available at The Arc's adjacent work center, a participant who is interested in working may be eligible for training for certain jobs.
Also, there are a variety of community-based activities, including picnics, shopping, visits to museums and libraries, etc. Also, birthdays and holidays are always a cause for festive celebration!
